Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Burd LLC ("we") collects when you use talkfast.space, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: to score you we record your voice while you hold the key; we keep the clip to verify results; we don't sell your data.
1. What we collect
Voice recordings. When you start a run and hold the key, your microphone audio is recorded in the browser and sent to our servers. Nothing is recorded before you start or after you release the key.
Transcripts and scores. The automated transcript of your clip, its measured length, your words-per-minute and accuracy, and the sentence you were reading.
What you type. Your display name, and optionally a social handle, website, or a sentence you propose for the next round. Sponsors also give a word, brand name, link, bid amount and an icon image.
Technical data. A salted, one-way hash of your IP address (used for rate limiting — we don't store the raw IP with your runs), standard server logs, and bot-detection signals collected by Vercel BotID to tell humans from automated traffic.
Payments. Sponsor payments are handled by Stripe. We receive the payment status, amount, and Stripe's identifiers; we never see or store your card number.
We don't use advertising cookies or third-party analytics trackers. Anything stored in your browser (like a remembered preference) stays on your device.
2. How we use it
- To transcribe, time and score your run, and show it on the leaderboard and activity feed with your display name.
- To verify results, investigate suspected cheating, and handle disputes — this is why clips are kept.
- To run the sponsor auction: display sponsor content, process payments and automatic refunds.
- To keep the service working and secure: rate limiting, bot detection, debugging.
We don't use your recordings to train AI models, and we don't sell or rent personal data.
3. Who else processes your data
- Vercel — hosts the site and its functions, and routes transcription requests through Vercel AI Gateway.
- OpenAI — provides the speech-to-text model (Whisper) that transcribes your clip, via Vercel AI Gateway. Clips are sent for transcription only.
- Supabase — stores our database and files (clips, sponsor icons) in the United States.
- Stripe — payment processing for sponsor bids, under Stripe's own privacy policy.
- Logo/avatar services — if you give a website or handle, your browser loads a logo from Google's favicon service or unavatar.io.
These providers act on our instructions and are bound by their own data-protection commitments. We'll also disclose data if the law requires it or to protect our rights, users or the public.
4. What's public
Your display name, handle or website (if given), logo, score, the sentence you read, and any sentence you set are shown publicly on the leaderboard and activity feed. Sponsor words, names, links and icons are public by design. Voice clips are not public; only we can access them.
5. How long we keep things
Runs and scores stay on the leaderboard indefinitely unless removed. Voice clips are kept for up to 12 months for verification, then deleted; clips attached to top-ranked or disputed runs may be kept longer. Sponsor and payment records are kept as long as needed for accounting and tax purposes. Rate-limit records are deleted within a few days.
6. Your choices and rights
You can play without giving a handle or website. To have a run, clip, sentence or sponsor entry removed, or to get a copy of the data we hold about you, email us at the address below with enough detail to find it (your display name and roughly when you played). Depending on where you live you may have legal rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your data, or to object to processing; we honour these requests for everyone.
Because we don't have accounts, please understand we may ask you to demonstrate that a run is yours before removing it.
7. Children
TalkFast isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has submitted a recording, contact us and we'll delete it.
8. Security and location
Data is stored with our providers in the United States and protected with access controls, encryption in transit, and private storage for clips. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting you we'll notify you as the law requires.
9. Changes
We may update this policy; the date at the top shows the latest version. If a change materially reduces your rights we'll flag it on the site.
